Awards Evening 2014/2015
On Thursday 20th November we celebrated our ‘Best Ever’ Awards Evening, recognising the achievements and talents of our amazing students. We were honoured to be joined by lots of special guests and friends of the school at our Awards Evening as well as two outstanding guest speakers. The first of these was Khalid Mahmood MP, Khalid has been the MP for Perry Barr since 2001 and has been a huge supporter of the school for many years, we were thrilled he could join us for the celebrations and to speak to our students and their families. Our second guest speaker was Cyrille Regis MBE, Cyrille has had many accolades throughout his career, from his many footballing achievements to his MBE and all the work he does as an Ambassador for Water Aid. Cyrille spoke to our students and their families and was truly inspirational, we thank both Khalid and Cyrille for finding the time to be part of our Awards Evening.
We were also thrilled to be joined by Narissa Clifford from Make a Wish Foundation, our chosen charity for last academic year, as part of our evening Narissa spoke about the work they do as a charity and the wishes they have granted to lots of different children around the UK. As a school we were able to present her with a cheque for £2795.95 which has already helped to grant wishes for other children and families in the UK.
On the theme of charity Adam Kingston, one of our Year 10 students has been raising money for Cancer Research, this is a charity close to his heart as Adam tragically lost his Mum to the disease recently. Adam arranged a raffle where he went and sold tickets to staff and students around the school and amazingly raised £516 for Cancer Research. At our Awards Evening Adam was presented with a letter from Cancer Research thanking him for all the amazing work he has done and what the money means to them. A truly outstanding achievement, well done Adam.
There were several performances throughout the evening including a dance performance, singing from Doha Belhanna and our Big Band. The performances were outstanding demonstrating the amazing talent we have in our school.
Our Head Boy, Head Girl, First Deputies and Deputies made us proud as they handed out the Subject Awards and Special Awards to the students had been chosen to receive them, it was a privilege to see so many students being recognised for their outstanding achievements. Awards Evening was a true celebration of our students and their achievements and without doubt our ‘Best Ever’.
