Executive Headteacher Message

Executive Headteacher Message.

Welcome to Perry Beeches – Team PB.

My name is Liam Nolan and I have the real honour and privilege of being the Chief Executive Officer of ‘Perry Beeches Academy Trust’.

We are currently a family of five secondary schools; Perry Beeches The Academy, in Great Barr, Birmingham, Perry Beeches II The Free School, in the Jewellery Quarter, Perry Beeches III, The Free School on Bath Row on the Attwood Estate and Perry Beeches IV on Albion Street in the Jewellery Quarter.  Our newest school, Perry Beeches V is an ‘All through family school’ in Small Heath which, when full, will educate young people from 4 – 19.  Our first dedicated Primary school will open in September 2016 opposite Perry Beeches III.  In September 2017 we open Perry Beeches VI which will be an ‘All through school’ in Perry Barr again with an age range of 4 – 19.

Perry Beeches The Academy Trust now has a Sixth Form which is currently located on the campus’ of Perry Beeches II .

All of our PB schools are non-selective, mixed comprehensive schools with broad, balanced, dynamic curriculums.  The five schools serve their local communities with an admissions policy that follows Birmingham City Council Criteria, which means those nearest to the building have first choice in applying and getting a place at a PB school.

We have worked tremendously hard as a school community over the last eight years to really turn around our reputation to become the No.1 school in the UK.  We don’t always get it right, but we work in an honest, upfront, professional and respectful environment where we welcome challenge as much as we welcome praise.

Lots of our critics enjoy their visits to the PB schools and make great statements.  In March 2013 we had a full OFSTED inspection of Perry Beeches The Academy, the team commented:

“The Academy has become a beacon of outstanding practice.  Leadership is strong throughout the academy”

“Students make outstanding progress.  By the end of Year 11, their attainment is high”.

“Teaching is inspirational”.

“Students feel very safe and their behaviour is exemplary”.

“The academy is outstandingly successful in developing students’ spiritual, moral, social and cultural awareness”.

“The academy has a calm and purposeful atmosphere.  The attendance and punctuality of students are both high”.

The Academy was judged to be Outstanding in all areas.

In October 2012, the Secretary of State for Education, The Right Honourable Michael Gove, MP, said “The two best schools in Birmingham are Perry Beeches I and Perry Beeches II”.  Enormous praise indeed having previously called us “World Class” and compared us to Oxford and Cambridge universities.  Perry Beeches II had an Ofsted inspection in April 2014 and was judged to be ‘Outstanding’ in all areas.  Ofsted said:

“The Schools Headteacher and her senior team have demonstrated excellent leadership and management”

‘This school seeks what is true, seeks what is right, seeks what is just for students and they thrive as a result’.

“Students make rapid and sustained progress”

‘The behaviour of students is Outstanding”.

‘The Sixth Form is Outstanding because of the excellent teaching and personal support by staff for students”.

Our five local schools are ably run on a day to day basis by a highly qualified team of practitioners who are all learners themselves – over 70 of our current staff have passed, or are studying, the MA in Education; others are completing full Honours Degrees, Foundation Degrees or a whole host of professional qualifications.  We are all learners at PB.

Each school has its own Headteacher.  Mr Stuart Turnbull, is the Head of PB I, The Academy, Mr Kevin Rogers, the Head of PB II The Free School, Mr Liam Nolan is currently the Head of PB III The Free School, Mr Russell Bond, Headteacher of PB IV the Free School and Mr Perdip Mann and Mrs Caz Brasenell at Perry Beeches V are both joint Headteachers . Mr Gary Hopkins is Headteacher of Perry Beeches Primary I.

Thank you for opening our website pages.
