Birmingham Royal Ballet Event
Perry Beeches The Academy hosted an event in partnership with the Birmingham Royal Ballet.
‘Ballet –what’s that?’ is a project which aims to introduce adults to the world of dance; it aims to demystify ballet, break down stereotypes and engage people from the local community in lecture demonstrations and informal discussion around ballet.
Friday evening welcomed over 200 visitors to the Academy. There was a range of interactive lecture demonstrations (Introduction to ballet as an art form; Behind the scene information from company artists and ambassadors; Insights of dancers training and lifestyle). There was live music and refreshments provided.
There was dance photography and a display of costumes. Ballet excerpts from the ‘Prince of the Pagodas’ were performed by Birmingham Royal Ballet dancers as a powerful entertainment for all participants. Young children aged 4-5 years performed and 15 students from The Academy performed a dance piece that they created at the Birmingham Royal Ballet with professional dancers and musicians. The evening was a great success and we welcome the opportunity to work with other agencies in the future.
