Student Travel Plan Company
Centro and Mott Macdonald are running a new competition to support schools to deliver their Travel Plans. The competition, named the Student Travel Plan Company, is being offered at four schools: High Arcal School in Dudley, Barr’s Hill in Coventry, Perry Beeches in Birmingham and Shireland Collegiate in Smethwick. Six Year 9 students at each school are developing a campaign to deliver an element of the school’s Travel Plan to staff and students. Attending a series of workshops, students will learn the skills required to deliver a successful campaign at their school, supported by Centro, Mott MacDonald and the District Councils. Teams will then pitch against each other in a ‘Dragon’s Den’ style event to be held on 2nd July 2014, attended by industry experts, Directors and CEOs, to select the winner. Perry Beeches have plans to design and personalise cycle helmets and host a ‘bike’ fashion show. The event will be supported by local businesses. Funding is being sought for cycle storage to encourage more students to cycle to school.
Faheem Kazi from Centro supported the students in their marketing plan and encouraged them to plan effectively with meaningful deadlines to ensure the success of their project. Stuart Turnbull Head Teacher said this is a great opportunity for the students to show off their entrepreneurial skills and really develop a sustainable project that will make a big impact on the school community.
