University of Manchester
Fifteen Year 10 Gifted and Talented students attended a workshop held at The University of Manchester earlier this month. The workshop involved our students working alongside two PhD students from the School of Materials. Our students were required to work in small teams to design and build a beam suitable for aerospace applications! Each beam was tested to destruction, using university research equipment. Furthermore, our students were given an introduction to a variety of different materials currently used in Science, and learnt about mechanical tests such as impact testing. Staff from the university commented on the incredible beam designs generated by our students and were equally impressed by their confident and detailed presentations!
